Our Mission:

"To Preserve and Perpetuate the History of Oklahoma and its people by collecting, interpreting and disseminating knowledge of Oklahoma and the Southwest."

For over 100 years the Oklahoma Historical Society has strived to protect, chronicle and share the history of our great state. The Oklahoma Historical Society maintains over 20 museums & historic sites and five affiliates located throughout Oklahoma. Intriguing destinations including historic homes, military sites, and museums offer a unique glimpse into Oklahoma's past.

About the Oklahoma History Center

The new Oklahoma History Center is beautifully designed to provide visitors a self-guided exploration of Oklahoma – past to present. With four permanent galleries, a special events hall, and outdoor exhibits guests will experience Oklahoma’s spirit, triumphs and tragedies…from oil and space exploration to the land run of 1889. The state of the art Research Center offers visitors the opportunity to explore their own history through the extensive research collections and genealogical resources.

Conveniently located in the Capital Complex, the Oklahoma History Center is adjacent to the State Capital and the Governor’s Mansion, both within easy driving or walking distance.

The Winnie Mae Café located inside the Oklahoma History Center, offers fresh made-to-order gourmet soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees.

Outside the museum, visit the Red River Journey for a scenic ¼ mile walking tour of the Red River Valley featuring land forms, vegetation and important historical locations. Explore the outdoor oilfield exhibit with drilling derricks, a portable derrick and machinery associated with Oklahoma oil explorations.
