October 13, 2017October 14, 2017

Event Navigation

Visit Fort Towson Historic Site for a unique and historical nighttime tour. The tour will begin with a hayride through the Fort Towson cemetery. Tour guides will then lead visitors through the walking portion of the trail. Multiple stops will allow visitors to learn the history of the fort from interpreters in period dress. The tour will end with a hayride back to the entrance. The Candlelight tours are available from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, with a tour beginning every 30 minutes.

Doaksville was the ending point for the Choctaw Trail of Tears and became the Choctaw Nation’s first capital in the 1830s. The town served as a major establishment in the region. Doaksville is also the site of General Stand Watie’s surrender on June 23, 1865.

Tickets are $6 per person and children six and under are free. For more information about the event please contact the Fort Towson Historic Site at 580-873-2634 or by email at jdavis@okhistory.org.
