An ardent patriot, Arnold distinguished himself as a skilled soldier and strategist during the early years of the American Revolution, leading attacks on Fort Ticonderoga and Quebec. Then, in 1779, after Congress failed to promote Arnold, he grew disillusioned and conspired to join the British. He planned to betray the Americans by allowing the British to win a victory at West Point. Before Arnold’s plan could be realized, he was found out and forced to flee to British position in New York. Arnold served out the war as a brigadier general in the British Army, fighting against his former comrades. Benedict Arnold’s reputation as a traitor was cemented, and history remembers him not for his distinguished military career but for his betrayal of the patriot cause.

Scott Green is a native Virginian who has lived all over the country. He returned to Virginia in 1996 to work at Colonial Williamsburg and fulfill his love of history. He performed in eighteenth-century plays as part of the Theatrical Interpretation Department before joining the Revolutionary City cast in 2006. He has been portraying Benedict Arnold ever since and says the role “truly sparked years of research and real desire to understand this very complex man. It is very gratifying to use the skills I have acquired as an actor and my historical research to bring this man to life for modern audiences.”
