OHS Presents
A Night in the Life: The Roaring Twenties

Join the Oklahoma Historical Society for an immersive evening in the roaring 1920s on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 7 pm to 10 pm. Held at the Oklahoma History Center, this fundraising event will boast three spaces: a Prohibition-era barrelhouse featuring live blues music; a mingling area with food, bar, and dance lessons; and an exclusive speakeasy featuring live jazz music and an open bar. Enjoy impromptu live performances and live action vignettes that will make you feel like you have stepped back in time to the golden age of jazz. Put on your glad rags or come dressed as your favorite flapper or gangster. This event is for ages 21 and over. See the FAQ for more details.

Featuring: Harold Aldridge singing the blues at the Prohibition-era barrelhouse, Walter Taylor and Taylor Madeplaying jazz-era hits in the speakeasy, Oklahoma City University Dance Department dance hall tap performance, temperance movement protesters, Pretty Boy Floyd hold up, a police raid, and more!

This Event is Sold Out!
No Tickets at the Door

What is the difference between the two ticket prices?
The $40 entry fee ($35 for OHS members) will get you general access to the event. This will include the barrelhouse featuring acoustic blues music by Harold Aldridge, the green screen photo booth, dance lessons, dress-up station, and two drink tickets, but will NOT include access to the speakeasy.

The tickets for $100 ($80 for OHS members) get you access to everything. This includes the general entry plus access to the speakeasy with live jazz music of the era and an open bar.

What should I wear?
We encourage you to dress up in 1920s-themed clothing but it is certainly not required! To help you figure out what to wear or how to transform something you already own into a Roaring Twenties outfit, visit our Pinterest board dedicated to the event.

Do I need to bring cash?
Short answer – probably. The Oklahoma History Center does not have an ATM. There will be a cash bar available that will serve wine, beer, and a select number of special mixed drinks. (An open bar is available to speakeasy access ticketholders only.)

Additionally, there will be a “Throw your Friends in Jail” opportunity. The OHS collections include the McAlester prison records from the 1920s–1930s. We will have a menu of “offenses” such as poultry theft or armed robbery that will give guests an opportunity to help the OHS raise funds and also get your friend a replica of the prison card with their offense and mug shot!

It sounds like you have a lot of stuff going on, how can I make sure I don’t miss something?
You are right; there is a lot of stuff going on! Don’t worry, we will have a schedule of events so that no one misses out on a Pretty Boy Floyd hold up, a temperance protest, Will Rogers, or gets caught up in a police raid.
