Bake Day at Fort Gibson

FORT GIBSON, Okla. — Fort Gibson Historic Site and the Friends of Fort Gibson will host Bake Day on Saturday, March 31, starting at 10 a.m. The smell of fresh bread will tempt visitors and free samples will make history come to life. This living history presentation is an educational event that depicts one aspect of army life during and after the Civil War.

During the event, head baker Rory Montgomery will explain the process of baking bread in an old stone oven. Guests will enjoy bread baking demonstrations and children may attempt to make butter in a glass jar. Visitors also can bring their favorite bread to be baked in the wood-fired oven at Fort Gibson. Fort Gibson Historic Site is located at 907 N. Garrison in the town of Fort Gibson. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort Gibson is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.

Fort Gibson Historic Site is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state.
