Oklahoma Supreme Court to Open Letter from 1913

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – On Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., in the Supreme Court Hearing Room on the second floor of the Oklahoma Judicial Center at 2100 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Colbert will read a letter written in 1913 by then Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Samuel W. Hayes. The letter was placed in the Oklahoma Century Chest on April 22, 1913. The Century Chest was sealed into the basement floor of the First Lutheran Church of Oklahoma City on that date.  One hundred years later, on April 22, 2013, the time capsule containing priceless treasures from the pioneers of Oklahoma was opened.  One of the messages found in the chest was addressed to the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma in 2013 from the chief justice in 1913.

On April 22, 2014, the Oklahoma Historical Society will open a major exhibit, "On Behalf of the Pioneers: Oklahoma Century Chest 1913-2013."  The exhibit will be located at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City and will share the artifacts, voices and messages of the Oklahoma Century Chest with today's generations of Oklahomans.
