2009 Annual Meeting

April 22-24 at the Bartlesville Community Center, Bartlesville Oklahoma

The OHS 2009 Annual Meeting will be held on April 22, 23, and 24 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, at the Bartlesville Community Center, 300 Southeast Adams Boulevard.

Arrangements have been made by the OHS Annual Meeting Planning Committee, comprising Board Members Guy W. Logsdon (chair), Denzil Garrison, Mary Brett, and Leonard Logan. Among the OHS staff members and volunteers involved is planning and executing the event are Bob Blackburn, Barbara Garrison, Paul Lambert, Geneva Little, Brittany Molloy, Alma Moore, and Tim Zwink.

The conference hotels for the Annual Meeting are the Hotel Phillips at 821 Johnstone, The Inn at Price Tower at 510 Dewey Avenue, and The Hampton Inn, located at 130 SE Washington Boulevard.

Special room rates for Annual Meeting attendees and participants have been established on a block of rooms at each hotel. Reservations may be made by calling The Hotel Phillips ($80) at 800/331-0706, the Hampton Inn ($89) at 918/333-4051, or The Inn at Price Tower ($129) at 918/336-1000.

Individuals attending the Annual Meeting are responsible for making their own hotel reservations. Tell the desk clerk you are with the Oklahoma Historical Society to receive the special rate.

A registration form will be mailed separately to all members of the Society. Please fill it out and return it with your payment as soon as possible. Packets with tickets and name tags may be picked up at the Community Center at the OHS registration table beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, and from 8 a.m. on both Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24.

OHS Members are encouraged to register early. There are a limited number of tickets for admission to special events and meals. The preregistration deadline is April 15, 2009. A registration fee of $15 for OHS members and $20 for non-members is required regardless of the number of events you plan to attend. Because the Annual Meeting is a self-supporting function, the revenue is used to pay expenses. No refunds will be made after April 17, 2009.

On Wednesday evening, April 22, the OHS will host a special reception in the Terrace Room of the Phillips Tower in Bartlesville. During the reception the OHS will honor Denzil Garrison for his more than three decades of service to the OHS. Refreshments will be served, and the Phillips Museum, located just across the street from the Phillips Tower, will be open for touring. Concurrent paper sessions, each with two to three presenters and one moderator, on a wide variety of historical topics will be held on Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24, at the Bartlesville Community Center.

On Thursday and Friday an Exhibitors’ Area will be located in the Bartlesville Community Center.

On Thursday and Friday mornings a break area will offer several complimentary beverages.

At 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, members and guests will gather in Community Room of the Bartlesville Community Center for a luncheon, the cost of which will be outlined in the materials mailed to members. Annual Membership Meeting

After the luncheon, at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the Community Room, members will attend the OHS Annual Meeting of the Membership. OHS president James R. Waldo will describe the State of the Society; followed by the announcement and swearing-in of new Board members.

Optional Activities

Bartlesville Area
On Thursday afternoon, April 13, participants will have free time to explore attractions in the Bartlesville area, including the Frank Phillips Home, Washington County Historical Museum, the restored Nellie Johnstone No. 1 oil well, all in Bartlesville. In nearby Dewey is the historic Dewey Hotel and the Tom Mix Museum.

An Evening at Woolaroc
Later on Thursday an evening at Wooloroc will be offered, featuring social time at the Frank Phillips Lodge, dinner at the Events Center, and touring the renowned Woolaroc Museum. Details as to cost will be provided in the registration packet mailed to members.

Awards Luncheon

The Annual Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 24, will begin at 12:15 p.m. in Community Room of the Bartlesville Community Center. Following the meal, presentations will include the Muriel H. Wright Award, Joseph B. Thoburn Award, William D. Pennington Memorial Award, as well as awards for the Best Book on Oklahoma History, Outstanding Thesis on Oklahoma History, Outstanding Local Historical Society or Museum, Outstanding OHS Support Group, and the Oklahoma Historians Hall of Fame.
