Cherokee National Holiday activities, Hunter’s Home

August 31, 2018September 2, 2018

Event Navigation

Visit Tahlequah and Park Hill for the Cherokee National Holiday celebration to be held Labor Day weekend—Friday, August 31, through Sunday, September 2. This is one of the most enduring traditions of Cherokee Nation and all are invited to join the celebration of Cherokee heritage, cultural awareness, and reuniting families. Thousands of Cherokees and visitors from across the United States and abroad make the pilgrimage to the historic Cherokee Nation capital in Tahlequah to renew friendships and celebrate the Cherokee spirit. The holiday has been observed annually since 1953 to commemorate the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution and the Act of Union, reuniting Cherokees both East and West after the Trail of Tears. With an exciting array of entertainment, cultural activities, athletic events, and fun for the entire family, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma.

Hunter’s Home in Park Hill will be one of the many historic sites to highlight aspects of Cherokee life. There will be living history presentations and hands-on activities. For a complete schedule of Cherokee National Holiday activities at Hunter’s Home, please call 918-456-2751 or visit www.facebook.com/huntershomeok.
