Christmas Open House and live music by The Silver Strings, Sod House Museum

December 9, 2017, 1 p.m.3 p.m.

Event Navigation

Celebrate Christmas the pioneer way at the Sod House Museum on Saturday, December 9, from 1 to 3 pm. Share in the festivities with music by The Silver Strings, traditional decorations, and treats by the Sod House Friends Group. The Silver Strings will share their love of music with guests at the Christmas Open House. This group formed seven years ago and plays folk and traditional Christmas music along with gospel and country. The core group consists of Robert Brown on the violin; Duane and Norma Condrey on guitar, ukulele, and piano; and Margaret Goss on hammered dulcimer and autoharp as well as the ancient musical instruments bowed psaltery and Celtic lap harp.

This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the enclosure of the Sod House, the Sod House Friends Group has two quilts that will be given away during a raffle at the Open House: an embroidered/quilted throw and a queen-size “Heritage Stars” quilt.

The museum will be decorated for Christmas, while the Sod House itself will be decorated for a traditional 1890s pioneer Christmas. Visitors also can enjoy cookies and hot cider provided by the Friends Group. The Christmas Open House is a “thank you” for continued support of the museum. For more information please contact Director Renee Trindle at 580-463-2441 or sodhouse@okhistory.org.
