Third Saturday Living History program, George M. Murrell Home

December 16, 2017, 1 p.m.4 p.m.

Event Navigation

Visit the George M. Murrell Home in Park Hill on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm to participate in a nineteenth-century living history activity. The Third Saturday Living History program is free and open to visitors of all ages. It is held on the third Saturday of each month, with a new topic for each program. On Saturday, December 16, participants are invited to celebrate the season and make gilded walnut Christmas ornaments. During the nineteenth century, people would hollow out English walnuts and place a piece of paper with a drawing on it inside. They would then glue the walnut shut and hang it on the Christmas tree. Later, they would open the walnut to see their “fortune” for the year. For more information please call 918-456-2751, email murrellhome@okhistory.org, or visit www.facebook.com/murrellhome. The Murrell Home is located three miles south of Tahlequah at 19479 East Murrell Home Road in Park Hill. The 1845 plantation home was the residence of George and Minerva (Ross) Murrell, and is a National Historic Landmark.
