Opening April 4, 2008
Do you remember those times growing up, casting that fishing line and waiting in the early morning for that fish to bite? Can you think back to the hunting trips you used to take with grandpa or those family camping trips? If you're like many Oklahomans, these are some of your fondest memories. If you'd like to take a look back, join the Oklahoma History Center for our newest exhibit Field, Forest & Stream: The History of Oklahomans and the Outdoors.
Opening April 4, 2008, this special exhibit will cover the history of fishing, hunting, outdoor recreation, and conservation in our great state. Experience artifacts and manuscripts from the collections of some of our most famous Oklahomans, such as Wiley Post and Don Wallace. Take a look at vintage Oklahoma camping equipment and the beautiful craftsmanship of a Plains Indian bow and quiver.
Choose your path! Follow the Water Trail to explore Oklahoma's streams, rivers, and lakes. Check out the high-definition aquarium for real-life Oklahoma game fish species. You can even try your hand at some hands-on catfish noodling!
On the Forest Trail, you will find out about Oklahoma's national forests, game management areas, wildlife refuges, preserves, and state parks. You can climb into the life-size hunting blind and choose from outdoor sports and conservation activities.
Follow the Camp Trail and you will be surrounded by the campfire experience. Find out about tall tales, myths, and legends from Oklahoma's past and present, as well as camping methods and recipes. If you are looking to reminisce, interactive campfire stories are the place for you. Pull up a piece of ground, choose between several historical figures, and listen to their tales.
The Oklahoma History Center and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation have come together to present the Field, Forest & Stream: The History of Oklahomans and the Outdoors. If you love the outdoors, join us for this exciting exhibit.
