Oklahoma National History Day Institute

10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

OkNHD announces an exciting and unique one day institute for teachers and students. On October 16 students and teachers can join OkNHD staff, National History Day staff, and experts in the field for a free one day workshop examining a variety of NHD related topics. The workshop will be held at our regional contest host Oklahoma Christian University from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Introduction
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 Institute Opening and Welcome with Jason Harris, OkNHD and Kim Fortney, Deputy Director of National History Day.

Session One
10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. General Overview of NHD and Teacher Opportunities including Patricia Behring Awards with Kim Fortney. (Teachers Only)
10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Developing NHD Websites with Jennifer Towry, Oklahoma Historical Society Web Master.
11:20 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Lunch

Session Two
12:10 - 12:45 p.m. NHD and Library Media Specialists with Amanda Kordeliski, Norman Public Schools. (Teachers Only)
12:10 - 12:45 p.m. Developing NHD Exhibits with David Davis, Director of Exhibits, Oklahoma History Center.

Session Three
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Engaging Fellow Teachers with Diane Walker, Muskogee Public Schools.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Developing Performances with Dora Fuqua, Canton Public Schools.

Session Four
1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. NHD and English Language Arts with Patty Sanders, Morrison Public Schools. (Teachers Only)
1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Developing Historical Papers and Bibliographies with Rachel Kellum, OkNHD.

Session Five
2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Integrating NHD into the Classroo m & Fundraising with Penny Heath, Canton Public Schools. (Teachers Only)
2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Conducting Oral Histories with JA Pryse, Digital Archivist, Oklahoma Historical Society.

Session Six
3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Judging Criteria with Jason Harris and Kim Fortney.
3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. District and State Contests (for students) with Sarah Dumas, OkNHD and Rachel Kellum, OkNHD.

Registration for the workshop is free and includes lunch. To register teachers or students please contact Jason Harris by October 10 at jharris@okhistory.org or by phone at 405-522-0785 with the number of student and teacher participants.

Oklahoma Christian is located at 2501 E Memorial Rd, Edmond, OK 73136. A campus map and building locations will be emailed to teachers prior to the workshop.
