Oklahoma National History Day is part of NHD and is a highly regarded academic program for 6th through 12th grade students. It allows teachers the chance to incorporate an academic program that directly addresses Oklahoma Assessment Standards for the social studies with student-based projects. The next state OKNHD contest is scheduled for May 4–5, 2016, at the Oklahoma History Center. Junior Division will compete on Wednesday, May 4, and Senior Division will compete on Thursday, May 5. National History Day is a nonprofit education organization in College Park, Md. Established in 1974 NHD offers year-long academic programs that engage more than half a million middle and high school students around the world annually in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. These research-based projects are entered into contests at the local and affiliate levels, where the top student projects have the opportunity to advance to the national contest at the University of Maryland at College Park.
