Samuel L. Sampler

Cpl. Samuel L. Sampler, Company H, 142nd Infantry, 36th Division was awarded the Medal of Honor for action near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918.

With his company taking German machine gun fire, he advanced on the machine gun nest throwing captured German hand grenades, killing two, capturing 28 Germans and silencing the enemy machine gun.
