The USS Oklahoma was Dale Hamlin's ship at Pearl Harbor when it was sunk by five Japanese torpedo hits on December 7, 1941. He was 25.
Younger brother, Harry was also at Pearl Harbor at the time of the December 7 attack and was engaged in weather observation duties aboard aircraft carrier Curtis.
[Notification] that Dale was listed as "Missing" came from his wife, the former Marjory Moergeli, of Tacoma, Washington, as "next of kin." It was three days before Christmas when the news was received here.
Confirmation of Dale's death came late in February, 1942 and a memorial service was held. His body was returned for burial in Galva Cemetery in May, 1949.
