The name of Eugene Paul Hann, 25, was stamped indelibly upon the history of Alliance Tuesday as the city's first resident known to have made the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War
Word that Hann "went down with the Oklahoma" was received at 2 a.m. Tuesday by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pomper with whom he had made his home.
Hann would have been 25 in January and likewise would have completed his four-year enlistment during that month. He was an honor graduate of the Great Lakes Naval Training Station.
Treasured through the years by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pomper will be a Christmas card that arrived from Hann Monday. It bore the message, "Love to all."
