Lehman, Gerald G
For 59 years Florence Halley has been haunted by her brother's death.
The "baby of the family", died Dec. 7, 1941 when the battleship he served on, the USS Oklahoma, capsized in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. His remains were never recovered.
"When I heard about (the attack) I was in the car going to my friend's house." "She said, "Now don't cry for nothing; let's turn on the radio.' The first words out of the radio were that the Oklahoma has been hit.....
She recalled that in one of his last letters home her brother mentioned spending his 18th and final birthday, Nov. 11- chipping paint from the bulkhead.
