Archie Callahan Jr., 19, of Somerset Street was killed in the service of his country. Callahan was a mess attendant, second class, on the U. S. S. Oklahoma which capsized under Japanese bombardment at Pearl Harbor December 7.
His father, Archie Sr., received a telegram from the Navy Department December 21 which said the youth was missing. A subsequent telegram February 12 stated that he had been "officially declared to have lost his life."
Archie was graduated from Monmouth Street Grammar School and attended Central High School and Boys' Vocational School in Sussex Avenue. He enlisted in the Navy August 21, 1940. He also is survived by a sister Jacqueline, 17.
