Sergeant, U. S. Army. Home address: Heavener, LeFlore County. Mrs. Mary K; Black, Mother, Heavener. Born July 29, 1913. Enlisted September 5, 1935. Decorations: Order of the Purple Heart; Presidential Accolade, both of which were awarded posthumously. Attended Heavener High School. Captured by the Japanese on Corregidor Island, he twice escaped death when the Japanese prison ships on which he was being transported, were sunk. Died January 9, 1945 aboard the third prison ship.
