Lon Chaney, Jr., born Creighton Chaney in Oklahoma City on February 10, 1906, is the only actor to have played all four classic movie monsters: The Wolf Man, Frankenstein's Monster, The Mummy, and Count Dracula's Son. He is the son of Lon Chaney and was born in Oklahoma while his parents were on a theatrical tour. Both he and his father were featured on commemorative "Famous Movie Monster" postage stamps in 1997.
Born July 26, 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Blake Edwards is best known for the films he has directed: Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Pink Panther, 10, and Victor/Victoria. He married Julie Andrews, star of The Sound of Music, in 1969. In 1982, Edwards was nominated for an Oscar for Victor/Victoria.
James Garner was early on best-known as Brett Maverick in "Maverick" and went on to also star in "The Rockford Files" as well as numerous movies and tv shows. He has also appeared on Broadway. He was born in Norman on April 7, 1928. James Garner was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1986. His most recent role on TV was in "8 Simple Rules...for Dating My Teenage Daughter."
Ron Howard, forever known to millions of television fans as Opie from The Andy Griffith Show, was born in Duncan on March 1, 1954. Outgrowing his Opie days, Ron became known to a different generation of fans as Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. Breaking out of the acting scene, he moved behind the camera and has since become known for his direction in movies such as Splash, Apollo 13, and A Beautiful Mind, which won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Will Rogers was born to a Cherokee family on November 4, 1879, in Oologah. In 10th grade, he dropped out of school, a move he always regretted. He eventually became a member of the Ziegfeld Follies due to his popularity on stage. Though often known for his acting, Will Rogers was also many other things, including a journalist, radio broadcaster, and congressman.
