What Do You Take on a Land Run?
These pictures show a few of the things that many settlers took on a land run. They couldn't take many things because they did not have a lot of room in their wagon, and they had to move quickly to stake their claim.
Inside the Home
1. washing pitcher & bowl, 2. wooden bowl, 3. coffee grinder, 4. pie pan, 5. clock, 6. whiskey jug, 7. coffee pot, 8. stove, 9. skillet, 10. wash stand, 11. iron bed, 12. iron cook pot, 13. pestle, 14. twine
The forms of transportation used in the land runs were going on foot, on horseback, in a wagon, in a surrey, on a bicycle, and going on the railroad. The method of transportation that a person would use would depend on what he or she thought would be the most successful to get some free land, and it depended on what form of transportation was available to that person.
