Located in Kiwanis Park, the museum adjoins the Jackson County War Memorial. The memorial commemorates casualties of World War I and World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Across Falcon Road, the city reservoir offers a pleasant area for fishing, walking, biking, or driving. Lake Altus and Quartz Mountain State Park are seventeen miles north of the city. Often overlooked, the City of Altus dedicated a time capsule near the museum in celebration of the U S Bicentennial in 1976. The time capsule, scheduled to be opened during the nation's Tricentennial celebration in 2076, is on a garden "island" between the museum's north parking area and Memorial Drive. |
