The Bernice Ford-Price Memorial Reference Library, housed in the Museum of the Western Prairie, is a non-circulating research facility available by appointment. The museum library is for researchers and staff. Please read and observe all guidelines. The rules are for your benefit, the benefit of other patrons, and the museum staff. |
Hours of operation: Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Appointments are strictly observed. Patrons must arrive by 4:00 PM. Non-circulating: Materials may be viewed in designated areas on the premises. Closed stacks: Material is retrieved by the staff. Please remain in the public area. Sign in/out: Sign the library register provided. For our records, please enter a "time in" and "time out." You may be asked to provide identification, or to read and acknowledge a library-use policy. Baggage: At our discretion, you may be asked to leave handbags, briefcases, backpacks, or similar items in a specified area. Supplies: Paper, preferably loose-leaf, and pencil--but not pens--are allowed in the library. The museum does not provide these items. Please check with the staff before using electronic equipment. |
General use: Please do not lean or place items on library materials. Books should not be laid face-down while open. Remember, marks, erasures, or other alterations damage library materials. Fragile items: Patrons may be asked to wear gloves while handling certain items. These are provided by the museum. Copies: Photocopies are made by museum staff on request. Three sizes are available: 8.5 x 11 (standard), 8.5 x 14 (legal), and 11 x 17 inch. The cost is one dollar for the first page and fifteen cents for each additional page. Photocopying is ultimately harmful to library materials. Please be selective with requests. Copying should not be used to avoid on-site research. The staff, at its discretion, may restrict photocopying of fragile items. Courtesy: The library, because of limited space, is reserved for individual researchers. Others may visit the exhibit areas of the museum. |
Genealogists: The library maintains a small, passive, "family history" collection specific to the surrounding area. Genealogy is subject to the same guidelines as other research. Projects that heavily involve museum staff may incur a fee--in addition to all other applicable charges such as copies or postage. The staff will perform genealogical research as time permits. Photographs: The photographic collection is made available to the public through "browse books," binders that contain photocopies. Copies of original photographs are available, although types of reproduction are limited. Inquire for current prices and other details. |
