Oklahoma History Center Looking for Volunteers

A open house for prospective volunteers for the new Oklahoma History Center will be held Saturday Feb. 23, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chesapeake Events Center at the Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Volunteers are needed at the Oklahoma History Center to provide a variety of services to the general public on a daily basis. Services opportunities include acting as tour guides, living history docents, gallery hosts, greeters, docents and providing volunteer support at special events. A complete list of volunteer opportunities, service descriptions, volunteer benefits and an application for the Volunteer Services Program can be found at www.okhistorycenter.org.

The Oklahoma History Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed daily and at after hours special events.

The volunteer open house will provide prospective volunteers with an opportunity to meet the volunteer coordinator, other volunteers currently serving in the Volunteer Services Program and an overview of the program. Anyone with an interest in working as a volunteer at the Oklahoma History Center is encouraged to attend this informative session. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Prior volunteer experience is not required.

Prospective volunteers who are unable to attend the orientation are encouraged to contact the Volunteer Services Office at (405) 522-0754 for more information. Application to the Volunteers Services Program is required before attending new volunteer training.
