Oklahoma History Center Presents "Lunch and Learns" Summer Series

The Oklahoma History Center’s Research Division is presenting summer programming including a series called "Lunch and Learn Lectures." These informative lectures will cover a number of popular historical and genealogical topics. Also in July is a special film program featuring historic footage from the OHS Research Division archives. The Oklahoma History Center is located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, just east of the State Capitol on NE 23rd Street.

The programs thru August are being held on Saturdays. Registration for Lunch and Learns is $10 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required. To register call (405) 522-5225 (please have your credit card number ready.) Upcoming dates are listed below.

Admission to the film program is free and no registration is required.

Lunch & Learn Lecture: Land Records
Saturday June 27 from 11:30am to 1:00pm
$10, lunch included
Learn about researching Oklahoma land records with Billie Fogarty. Billie is president of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society and serves on the Oklahoma Historical Society board of directors.

Lunch & Learn Lecture: Indian Territory Intruders
Saturday July 25 from 11:30am to 1:00pm
$10, lunch included
Sharron Ashton will explore resources for locating and identifying "intruders" and other non-Indian residents in Indian Territory.

Lunch & Learn Lecture: Organizing a Research Plan
Saturday August 22 from 11:30am to 1:00pm

Summer Film Program
Saturday July 18 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm in the Chesapeake Event Center
Admission to this event is FREE!
1:00 - "Bank Robbery" the first film shot in Oklahoma was this 1908 silent film produced by Deputy U.S. Marshal Bill Tilghman. The film was shot at Cache, Oklahoma.
1:40 - Al Ritter, Vice President of the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association of Ponca City, will provide a 20-30 presentation on the history of the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch.
2:15 - View a film shot at the 101 Ranch in 1912 by Reliance Films. The film is about 25 minutes.
2:45 - there will be a brief intermission.
3:00 - View a documentary about the 101 Ranch produced by WKY-TV in the 1960s.
