For Immediate Release
In celebration of Oklahoma's Centennial of Statehood, the Oklahoma Historical Society has launched its Centennial Membership Campaign, and all Oklahomans interested in state and local history are encouraged to join, Dr. Bob L. Blackburn, Executive Director of the Society, has announced. Since the campaign was launched the number of members in the 104-year-old organization has increased by 37 percent, Blackburn said.
All who join between now and the end of the year will become Centennial Members of the OHS and will carry that designation for as long as they retain their memberships. In addition, the Society has added new membership categories with generous benefits. Memberships begin at $35 for individuals and $50 for families.
Among the benefits offered is free admission to the Society's new Oklahoma History Center, a 215,000-square-foot facility featuring the Smithsonian-affiliated Oklahoma Museum of History and a Research Center that meets National Archives standards. Members also receive discounts at the History Center's Gift Shop, the Chronicles of Oklahoma, the monthly newsletter Mistletoe Leaves, free admission to the Society's other 34 historical sites and museums, and invitations to special events and activities.
