WHAT: Press conference and one-on-ones

WHO: John Meek, grew up in Rocky, OK. Worked for Senator Robert S. Kerr, then J. Howard Edmonson after Kerr died. He then joined the staff of the National Democratic Party. In 1968 he was the Convention Coordinator for the national convention in Chicago. He organized the convention, planned the convention, and then had to keep it running after it started.

WHEN: Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10 a.m. Forty years ago to the day, August 25, 1968, the 1968 Democratic Convention began in Chicago.

WHERE: Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This will be a great local angle tie-in to the opening day of the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver.

For TV purposes, we have a PBS American Experience show on the 1968 convention. It includes film and video from NBC and CBS. He cannot identify any ABC footage and of course Fox News didn't exist in 1968. He will have DVD's available for the TV stations.

John is a great interview and has many behind the scene stories to share with you.

We will have CD's several photos of the '68 convention from John's personal collection.

We are announcing the opening of small exhibit focusing on Oklahomans involvement in various national conventions over the years, both Democratic and Republican. The emphasis in the exhibit is the 68 convention in Chicago. The exhibit is located in the research library.
