Oklahoma History Center Announces Student Art Contest

Oklahoma students grades 1st - 6th are invited to participate in the Oklahoma Historical Society's annual student art contest. This year's theme is "Oklahoma Symbols." Oklahoma has many unique and interesting state symbols that reflect the history and culture of our great state. A list of symbols is available on the OHS website at www.okhistory.org/kids/symbols.html.

Entry forms and details are available on the OHS Kids! section of the Oklahoma Historical Society website at www.okhistory.org/kids. The contest runs September 1 to October 30, 2009. Contest categories are grades 1st - 3rd and 4th - 6th. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each category.

Prizes include:

  • 1st Place: 1-Year Oklahoma Historical Society Family Membership, Oklahoma History Center T-Shirt, and a Oklahoma Symbols Coloring Book
  • 2nd Place: 1 Family Pass to the Oklahoma History Center, Oklahoma Symbols Magnet, and a Oklahoma Symbols Coloring Book
  • 3rd Place: 1 Family Pass to the Oklahoma History Center and a Oklahoma Symbols Coloring Book

The teacher of the 1st place winners will receive an Oklahoma symbols prize pack including: Oklahoma Bulletin Board Set, Oklahoma Symbols Projects Book, and The Big Oklahoma Reproducible Activity Book.

Entries will be judged on creativity and relation to the theme. Winners will be announced November 6 on OHS Kids! at www.okhistory.org/kids. All entries will be displayed on the website.
