The Oklahoma History Center took home one of the 29 Redbud Awards presented by Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department Executive Director Hardy Watkins Oct. 19 during the Governor's Conference on Tourism. The Oklahoma History Center was cited for "Outstanding Temporary Exhibit" for Another Hot Oklahoma Night: A rock and Roll Exhibit.

The annual awards included entries in 15 categories that were evaluated by out-of-state judges based on criteria including customer service, marketing effectiveness, media relations, variety of audiences reached, value and overall creativity.

"Redbud Awards represent the highest honor given in the Oklahoma tourism industry," said Watkins. "It was an exciting evening recognizing the efforts of our industry, and a great celebration of tourism."

The exhibit explores the Rock and Roll artists, radio stations, personalities, venues, and fans that have called Oklahoma home. Beyond the facts of each story, the exhibit shows how growing up in Oklahoma affected the music. These stories are on display in an innovative style to encourage visitor participation and ensure visitors will take away a new perspective on the history of Rock and Roll in Oklahoma.

Another Hot Oklahoma Night is featured in the special exhibits gallery, and in three of the major exhibit galleries as well. A recording studio, radio station control room, fashions and hair styles of the Rock and Roll eras, a teenagers bedroom, and record store front are all part of the exhibit.

Groups tours are available by contacting Robbin Davis, Volunteer & Marketing Manager (405) 522-5248 or by email at groups@okhistory.org. Oklahoma History Center hours are: Monday - Saturday 10am-5pm.
