EDITORIAL POLICY
The Chronicles of OklahomaThe Editor of The Chronicles of Oklahoma actively seeks manuscripts that deal with the broad sweep of Oklahoma's rich heritage. Suitable topics include narrative history, biography, historiography, historic preservation, archeology, anthropology, ethnohistory, and related fields of study. Manuscripts submitted to the Publications Office should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. (University of Chicago Press), be approximately 5,000 words in length (excluding endnotes), and be typed double-spaced on 8 ½" x 11", non-erasable bond paper, with endnotes typed double-spaced and placed at the end of the manuscript, not embedded within the manuscript. When possible, authors also should submit the manuscript on computer disk.
The Editor reserves the right to make any editorial changes deemed necessary for the sake of clarity, accuracy, or conformity to an adopted style. The Editor also reserves the right to submit all manuscripts to two members of an editorial advisory board or two recognized authorities in the field of study who will make recommendations to the Editor.
Before publication, authors must sign a copyright waiver form which grants to the Society one-time publication rights. Appropriate photographs, maps, and illustrations should be supplied with the manuscript and will be returned upon author's request. The Society is not responsible for manuscripts or illustrations sent through the mails. To safeguard against loss of valuable materials, authors should not send the only existing copies of manuscripts or rare photographs.
Permission to reprint copyrighted material from The Chronicles of Oklahoma must be submitted in writing. In some cases, permission from the author also must be obtained.
