Monogrammed Brick Stories

William J. and Alma Batty

Submitted by Hank Batty

My mother and father were born in Oklahoma in 1913 and 1912 respectively. My parents owned and operated the Dixie Drive Inn at 72nd and South Shields from the 1950s until the mid-1970s. They worked hard so that their children could have a good life. My two sisters and I all hold master's degrees and have worked in the field of education and government until our own retirements. I believe my parents typified the hard-working character so many Oklahomans of that era displayed. They've been gone for over twenty-five years, but my sisters and I still miss them and know that we can never repay them for all they did for us.
