John Wesley Dowlen lived his whole life within 15 miles of the Red River first in Texas and then in Cotton County, OK. He owned a half dozen brick bldgs in Temple, OK, and brought in merchants to run stores and a hotel. He helped establish the First State Bank of Temple. He was instrumental in getting the Byers Bridge built between OK and TX. He died of cancer on Sep 29, 1932, age 65 in his home on his beloved Beaver Creek farm less than 15 miles from the Red River.
