William McGibbon

William M. McGibbon b. Jan 12, 1847, in N.Y. d. Dec 18, 1921, in N.Y. On Sep 16, 1893 he made the OK Cherokee Outlet land run. After building a sod house he brought his family to OK Territory. In 1894 he petitioned for and was granted a post office and was postmaster. The first post office was in the sod house-a picture of which hangs in the post office dept. in Washington, D. C. McGibbon & his sons built and operated the Gibbon Trading Co. In 1919 William's wife Jane died & was buried in the Gibbon Cemetery. Mr. McGibbon died Dec 18, 1921, and is buried in the Gibbon Cemetery.
