William (Charley) Smith's (1825-1916) parents were a Cherokee man and a negro woman. Born free, he was kidnapped at age 12 from the Cherokee Nation & sold into slavery in MO. After he was freed his allotment was denied him. He was 91 when he died. He is buried in Hendrix Cemetery, Urich, Henry Co., MO.
