Monogrammed Brick Stories

Spriestersbach

Submitted by Pam Spriester Bell

Annie Spriestersbach and her children
When her husband abandoned the family in Springfield, Illinois, for another woman in 1903, she moved to Oklahoma City to be close to her brother. She was pregnant with the last child and worked in a laundry cleaning shop on Main St. in OKC. In a few years she moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma Territory, when her eldest son was hired by Rock Island Railroad. They lived in Chickasha until his death years later. She is buried in the cemetery in Chickasha, but with no headstone. She is only one story of a woman surviving in harsh conditions under terrible circumstances. Descendants of Annie Shaffer Spriestersbach still live in Oklahoma.
