OHS Research Division Receives Newspaper Grant

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the OHS Research Division a $307,000 grant to digitize approximately 100,000 page of historical newspapers.

The National Digital Newspaper Program represents a major effort to digitize millions of microfilmed pages of historically significant newspapers and make them available in a searchable online database. Through this program, the National Endowment for the Humanities intends to fund the digitization of historically significant newspapers from all 50 states and U.S. territories published between 1836 and 1922. Currently NDNP has 22 state partners.

Once complete, the digitized pages will be included in the Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers section of the Library of Congress website.
