OHS Launches WKY, KTVY, KFOR Film Collection Online

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., -- The Oklahoma Historical Society's Research Center has launched the WKY, KTVY, KFOR film collection channel on YouTube. The collection spans nearly 30 years and contains the photojournalistic historical record of the state of Oklahoma from 1953 to 1979. Through news footage, documentaries and television specials, the collection tells the story of Oklahoma's past in a unique audio/visual format. The initial launch contains 85 film reels that total more than 20 hours of viewing. Each film has been digitized in high definition, fully described and given context where available. With a click of a mouse viewers can watch the excitement created by an Elvis Presley concert in Oklahoma City, see the impact of Oklahoma sit-ins on the Civil Rights movement, and travel into the depths of the state penitentiary in McAlester, Oklahoma. New films will be added weekly as the OHS continues to digitize the nearly 7,000 film reels contained in the collection.
