Call for Proposals for the 2022 Oklahoma History Symposium

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) is seeking proposals for the 2022 Oklahoma History Symposium. This one-day event will be held on April 9, 2022, at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. The deadline to submit proposals is November 30, 2021.

The theme for the symposium is “Perspectives in History.” It will offer scholars, historians, authors, students and museum professionals from across the state and country a forum in which to share their work with history enthusiasts. Proposals will be considered on a wide range of Oklahoma history topics, with a focus on traditionally underrepresented voices. Possible broad topics include African American history, archaeology, the Five Tribes, folklife, genealogy, Plains Tribes, the territorial era and women’s history. Session formats could include traditional lectures, research presentations, discussion sessions or panel presentations. There also will be a museum and archival track for professional development, where topics will include best practices related to collections management and exhibits.

Proposed sessions must be either 30 or 50 minutes in length, including 10 minutes for audience questions and answers. More information and access to the form for submissions can be found at www.okhistory.org/perspectives.

The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people.
