Oklahoma History Center Offers Smithsonian Internship Program

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma History Center (OHC) Education Department is proud to announce its participation in the Smithsonian Internship Program. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, the OHC offers students interested in various facets of museum work the opportunity to function as Smithsonian interns. Some students may receive a stipend paid by the Smithsonian Institution (SI), or some may be unpaid internships. During their tenure at the OHC, the students will develop an e-exhibit as their project. That exhibit will then be displayed on both the OHC and SI websites when completed and approved.

“We are grateful to the Smithsonian Institution for allowing us to offer this program and these positions as a place of learning and academic growth for students nationwide,” said Dan Provo, director of the Oklahoma History Center.

“As someone who started at the museum as an intern, I appreciate the opportunity to educate and influence the next generation of museum employees,” said Sarah Dumas, director of education for the Oklahoma History Center. “We work very hard to ensure interns are well rounded in their experience here and leave with skills to help them in their future endeavors.” To inquire about an internship possibility, please visit www.okhistory.org/historycenter/interns.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education and research complex. From art history to zoology, exhibit building to investments, Smithsonian internships provide workplace-based learning experiences for a wide range of educational and career paths. The stated mission of the SI intern program is “to cultivate an equitable and accessible internship structure so that all learners have the opportunity to use Smithsonian resources to shape their future.”

The Oklahoma History Center is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, National Archives and is an accredited member of the American Alliance of Museums.
