Cartoons Highlight of Family Fun Day at Pioneer Woman Museum

PONCA CITY, Okla. — Saturday, July 23, is Movies and Cartoons Day at Pioneer Woman Museum. Pioneer Family Fun Days have been a hit this summer according to Museum Director Robbin Davis. “We are having an absolute blast this summer,” said Davis.

“This Saturday we will be enjoying vintage movies and cartoons. They are not only entertaining for sure, but also very different than what we see on TV and in the movies today. We will also have popcorn and lemonade plus it will be cool inside,” said Davis. Children and adults can even dress up as their favorite cartoon characters and come to the museum to watch the cartoons.

“Several of the families have been back week after week enjoying the activities. We have made bird feeders, played games inside and out, learned about animals and insects and we have made a variety of crafts. And we aren’t done yet,” said Davis. Since June 11, activities related to a variety of themes have been presented at the Pioneer Woman Museum for families to enjoy and to learn. “We try to throw in a little education with all of the fun things too,” said Davis.

The final Family Fun Day will be Saturday, July 30. “The last Saturday is always our ‘Happy Trails’ day. It is our salute and so long to the summer. This year we are especially excited to partner with Kay County Extension and the agriculture program from Ponca City High School. There will be animals for kids and parents to interact with and enjoy,” continued Davis.

In addition to the animals, there will also be a Dutch oven cooking demonstration and tasting. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the museum’s back yard. A game called Pack Your Wagon will also begin at noon. “It’s a fun game for the families to play where they get a list of items they have to source at the pretend stores to pack their wagon for a trip. Once the wagon is packed, they have to run it across the finish line. We like this game because it gives the kids a sense of what families had to go through to pack their wagons to begin their life in the new territory,” said Davis.

Families of up to six people can join in on the fun for only $5. The activities are designed so that participants can come and go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each week’s activities are preplanned and more information can be found at www.facebook.com/PioneerWomanMuseum. Most activities are appropriate for ages six and up, but everyone is welcome.
