Rock and Roll Legend Leon Russell recovering from Surgery

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell suffered a heart attack in July that required him to have by-pass surgery.

Russell is recovering from the successful surgery and is looking forward to getting back on the road with a fall concert tour. Dates in July, August, and September were cancelled but new dates are scheduled from October to December.

He was appreciative of the outpouring of kind words and prayers from fans across the globe.  “It’s always great if even one person likes me, it’s especially heartwarming to get over 400 emails,” Russell said while working on his rehab.

The songwriter, known for hits like “Tight Rope,” “Delta Lady,” and “A Song for You,” is also taking this opportunity to write new material.

Leon Russell’s career spans more than five decades. He has performed with iconic musicians such as John Lennon, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker, and George Harrison. Born Russell Bridges, he changed his name to Leon Russell after relocating to Los Angeles from his home in Tulsa, Okla. Russell now resides in Nashville.
