Event Navigation

The History Center will host a beginning Cherokee pottery class with Victoria Mitchell, Cherokee potter and Cherokee National Living Treasure, on April 5, 2014. The class will run from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and registration is required. The cost for the class is $100 and includes all materials and lunch. Class registration pays for all materials necessary to produce a traditional Cherokee coiled vessel. Class size is limited to just 12 participants to allow one-on-one instruction with the instructor.

Victoria will demonstrate techniques including Cherokee stamping design and discuss southeastern style traditional pottery. Each student will complete a coil vessel and decorate it with tools provided. You may leave your finished piece at the museum to be fired and picked up at a later date, or you may transport it to dry and make arrangements to fire the piece on your own.

You can find out more about Victoria Mitchell by visiting her website: www.victoriacherokeepottery.com. For more information or to register please contact Jason Harris at jharris@okhistory.org or by phone at (405) 522-0785.
