Event Navigation

Experience the history of southeastern Oklahoma at the annual Doaksville Candlelight Tours. Tours will be held Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the last tour departing at 10 p.m. A guide will take visitors on a 45-minute walking tour through the streets of this once prominent town.

The theme for this year is “Walk Through Time.” The venues on the tour will cover specific historic events in Doaksville’s history. Doaksville was the ending point for the Choctaw Trail of Tears and became the Choctaw Nation’s first capital in the mid-1830s. The town served as a major metropolitan establishment in the region. Confederate General Stand Watie surrendered at Doaksville on June 23, 1865.

The charge for the Doaksville Candlelight Tours is $8 for adults. For more information about the event and to make reservations, please call John Davis at 580-873-2634 or email jdavis@okhistory.org. Fort Towson Historic Site is located north of US 70 near Fort Towson.
