SUMMARY:Kids Make History
DESCRIPTION:Young people can learn about the natural world around us with a forestry program presented by Oklahoma Forestry Services Education Coordinator Tony Pascall. The program will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday\, July 15\, and will feature hands-on activities that teach about what the forest is\, the role of the forest\, and how people can better interact and care for a forest. \nPascall plans and implements education and outreach events for schools\, clubs\, scout groups\, and more all around the state of Oklahoma. Before joining Oklahoma Forestry Services\, he worked for eight years as a teacher in Detroit and Dallas\, teaching middle and high school math. After leaving the classroom\, he spent time as a park ranger for North Dakota State Parks. Pascall is passionate about environmental education and enjoys sharing a love of the outdoors with others. \nFort Towson held the reputation for being one of the most attractive sites in the West. When Captain Randolph Marcy’s wife Mary arrived at the fort in 1849\, she described the many trees that added to the beauty of the place. The soldiers at Fort Towson depended on trees for heat\, shade\, food\, and medicine. Oak\, pecan\, and fruit trees grew abundantly and were well cared for by the soldiers. This program continues that tradition of caring for our forests and natural resources. \nTony Pascall \nTo participate in this fun and educational program\, be at the Fort Towson Historic Site at 1 pm on Saturday\, July 15. This program is FREE to the public. To learn more\, call 580-873-2634 or email fttowson@history.ok.gov. \n\nThis program is provided through a partnership with Oklahoma 4-H and Choctaw and Pushmataha County OSU Extension.\n
