SUMMARY:Second Annual Oklahoma Women’s History Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Oklahoma History Center will host the second annual Oklahoma Women’s History Conference on Saturday\, March 1\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free to the public\, but registration is required. A boxed lunch is available for an additional fee. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch with them. \nThe first panel discussion will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The topic is early Oklahoma women’s activism\, and featured speakers are Dr. Edith Ritt-Coulter\, Rilla Askew\, and Connie Cronley. Fellow historian Dr. Sunu Kodumthara will moderate the panel. \nThere will be a lunch break and keynote presentation from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.\, presented by Dr. Autumn Brown of the Clara Luper Civil Rights and Freedom Center and the Oklahoma State University Archive’s Oklahoma Women’s Resources. \nLunch will be followed by another panel discussion from 1:45 to 3 p.m. with Tricia Everest\, secretary of public safety\, who will join Jana Gridley and Joy Hammons\, committee members of the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women. Through education\, collaboration and celebration the commission works on issues related to women\, equity\, and gender bias\, to elevate the status of women throughout the state. This panel will be moderated by Saidy Herrera\, multicultural officer for the Oklahoma Historical Society. \nA social hour will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. to promote networking opportunities for attendees. In addition to panels\, the event will host a pop-up area with local nonprofit women’s organizations to share information and resources. The Oklahoma History Center Museum Store will open during the event. \nThe event is free and open to the public\, but registration is required. It will take place at the Oklahoma History Center\, located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr. in Oklahoma City. Attendees must pay a separate fee to view the museum galleries but are invited to do so while on site. The Pioneer Woman Museum and Statue staff organize the annual conference.
