SUMMARY:"Storekeeper and Trader" living history program
DESCRIPTION:For the month of October\, the Fort Gibson Historic Site will be holding a living history program every Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon\, and again from 1 to 3 p.m. teaching visitors about the life of a storekeeper and trader at Fort Gibson. From October 3 to 31\, visitors can view the goods that would have been bought and traded at the military outpost. The program will be held at the Dog Trot cabin near the stockade. \nWhen Fort Gibson was established in 1824\, it was the westernmost military outpost of its day. With 300–500 hundred troops stationed there\, the fort was a supply point and bustling center for the trade activity of settlers\, fur traders\, and Indian Territory nations due to its location along the old Texas Road and the steamboat traffic that passed nearby on the Arkansas River. \nThe program is free with admission. Admission is Adults $7\, Seniors (62+) $5\, Students (6-18) $4\, Families (up to 6 people) $18\, OHS Members are free and children (under 6) as well as Veterans and Active Military (with ID).\n\n\n
