Nate Tarver began his law enforcement career as the first African American police officer in the city of Moore. During this time, Tarver befriended Johnny Lee Clary, a KKK grand wizard, after Tarver saved his life following an attack. Clary’s life story became a documentary that included Tarver’s efforts. Tarver retired from the Oklahoma City Police Department after 26 years of service and now serves as the chief of police for the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
