James Peters

Submitted by David Rains

James Peters was a Police Officer with the Tulsa Police Department in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. He was murdered as he investigated a burglary break-in at a lumberyard in the Red Fork area of Tulsa on the evening of April 14, 1949. His murder is the only unsolved murder of a Tulsa Police Officer. He was 76 at the time of his death and was one of only two remaining foot patrolmen on the force. He was fondly called "Uncle Jim" by Red Fork residents and the number of people at his funeral overflowed from the church into the streets.
