Elias Watie b. near Rome, GA, in 1802. He was full blood Cherokee. His Indian name was Galagina meaning male deer and he was called "Buck". His full brother was Stand Watie. Buck was sent to Foreign Mission School in Cornwall, CT, and spent a night With Dr. Elias Boudinot of NJ. Dr. Boudinot chose Buck as student to bestow gifts and he adopted the name Elias Boudinot. Elias married Miss Harriet Gold. Boudinot was assassinated in 1839.
