John Short's grandfather filed a claim in 1888 in Delhi Flats close to Sayre. His mother was born there in 1893. In 1902 the family moved to Mangum. John grew up in Mangum and served in WWII in Patton's 3rd Army at the Battle of the Bulge. Rhonda's grandfather filed a claim on the main fork of the Red River in 1899. Rhonda wrote a history of Greer County.
